Menanti nama-nama pemenang dalam ajang penghargaan Academy Award 2020 seperti harap-harap cemas. Pasalnya, ajang yang juga akrab disebut Oscar ini adalah gong dari rangkaian penghargaan bergengsi di industri perfilman dunia, setelah Golden Globe dan BAFTA.
Dan benar saja, ajang yang diadakan di Dolby Theater, Los Angeles, Amerika Serikat menyimpan banyak kejutan menarik yang membuat banyak orang bertepuk tangan meriah. Salah satunya yang diapresiasi sangat besar adalah film Parasite dari Korea Selatan yang dinominasikan dalam enam kategori dan memenangkan empat penghargaan.
Penobatan ini pun sekaligus sebagai pemecahan sejarah sebagai film asing pertama yang memenang kategori Best Picture di ajang penghargaan Oscar. Bonusnya, film ini juga memenangkan Best International Film, Best Original Screenplay dan sang sutradara, Bong Joon Ho, mendapatkan Best Director.
Namun di sisi lain, ajang ini juga menuai kritik dari banyak pihak. Salah satunya dikarenakan nominasi untuk kategori Best Directing dan Best Picture yang nihil representasi wanita. Bahkan Natalie Portman, datang ke Oscar dengan mengenakan gaun dengan outer yang bertuliskan nama-nama sutradara wanita yang tak masuk dalam nominasi.
